Welcome First Graders!
Dear First Grade Families,
I'm so excited to welcome you to D-3 this year! First grade is a year of amazing growth and independence for your child. They will be learning so many things both academically and socially. I am always amazed in January at how much these little brains have already accomplished!
This is my 21st year here at Newtown Elementary and my 19th year as a first grade teacher. I have a masters in reading, which I use constantly in a grade where so much reading development occurs! In addition to reading, your child will be playing many math games, writing both fiction and non-fiction stories, and conducting some amazing science experiments. We will certainly be busy!!
I have two daughters, Caleigh (16) and Hannah (12). Caleigh will be entering 11th grade this year near our home in the North Penn School District. Hannah is excited to be entering 7th grade in our middle school.
You will also see Mrs. Suter's name on our classroom website. She is the special education teacher for kindergarten, first, and second grades this year. She will meet with small groups in our classroom and participate in occasional morning meetings. Since she is teaching 3 different grade levels, her participation in our daily lessons will be less. I look forward to see many of you at our NES orientation on Thursday, August 25th. If you are new to NES, you are welcome to attend the "new student orientation" from 1:30-2:30. All families are welcome to meet their teacher and tour their classroom from 2:30-3:20. Please feel free to bring your child's school supplies on this day if you'd like. This helps lessen the backpack load for your child on the first day of school! If you are unable to visit on this day, DON'T WORRY. I will help your child find their desk on the first day and get them all settled in. As we get ready to start this year, please take a look at the ORIENTATION link on this website. Also be on the lookout for an invitation to this year's Google Classroom. Finally, squeeze out as much summer fun as you can in these last few weeks!
Looking forward to a fabulous year!
Mrs. Corey Johnson
