Kindergarten Sight Words

Flags: flexpage,

The goal is for each student to be able to read  these 49 sight words by the time they leave Kindergarten. They do not need to write from memory like spelling, they need to be able to find it and copy it from a word wall or list.

Here are some suggestions for creative ways to practice these sight words with your child:
*Write your words in shaving cream on the bathroom wall during bath time.
*Write your words in sidewalk chalk outside.
*Shape your words in cheerios or raisins. Enjoy eating each word after you’ve spelled it correctly.
*Write your words on the sidewalk with a paintbrush and water.
*Dump sugar onto a big plate.  Write your words in the sugar with your finger.
*Write your words in glitter glue.
*Write your words with rainbow colors (using markers.)
*Write your words on a dry erase board.
*Write your words on a Magna Doodle or Etch-a-Sketch.
*Mold your words using play-dough.
*Type your words in fancy letters on the computer.
*Spell your words from letters cut out of magazines.
*Make up a cheer for each word.
*Find the words and cut them out of magazines.
Practice these words often and HAVE FUN!   If after testing your child in Sept/Oct, they are able to identify all of these words,  my advice would then be to read and work on building fluency and comprehension skills with your child to ensure that they master these words completely!
